EVL Austin Meetup Recap
The very first EVL Guild meetup was a ton of fun and a huge success! We had almost 20 EVL members in attendance including Onyx, Jade, Brickbat, Iain Lochry, Dane Sardock, Demoyn, Kasula Saer, Relluc, Ganic, Faith Abides, Avery Lander, Sheamus McGuiness, Ashmaul, LedZepp, Smert Izdaleka, & Wikid Tribe, as well as a host of other local friends including Winfield, Kacey Cupcakes, Elwyn, Tsumo, & Jack SinAssist. The fun-filled weekend started off on Friday afternoon with an extensive tour of the Portalarium offices where Starr Long (Darkstarr) started off by showing us everything from Richard’s first Apple II and his Akalabeth games all the way through Ultima Online and more. They handed out free t-shirts which we got signed by the devs and also free SotA Challenge coins! Afterwards we got to talk to all of the different developers one on one about everything from level development, and combat to house design and whats to come. After picking their brains for a while we headed to a local pub called The Schurlock Pub where we met with a few developers and had drinks and dinner.
After dinner we got together, (after a short stop at the store), in the hotel lobby to split into two groups for a game of Pathfinder (basically D&D). We were lead by our Dungeon Masters Demoyn and Kasula Saer and as we toiled through the dungeon quest they prepared for us we drank the night away. The hotel was really cool with us having the games down stairs and even offered a few of us pizza!
The next day, after some hang over breakfast, many of us headed back to Portalarium studios to help decorate their office for Halloween! Once we got inside Berek greeted us and we got to work on themes for different rooms. Winfield had a few items already and after a plan was set we headed to the store to get more supplies. We ended up with a zombie room, skeleton room, voodoo room, spider room, buchery and more. We drank beers and did a few shots with Kacey Cupcakes as we decorated and everyone pitched in for a great job that the team even recognized on line.
The fun continued at dinner later that evening where we all got together and broke bread and drank until the presentation of our Royal Warrant. Just outside the restaurant we all gathered around a large tree where Berek presented to us a poster commemorating out time in Austin which he passed out to all and then presented us with our physical Royal Warrant. Onyx accepted it on our behalf and we couldn’t be more proud!
As we said good bye to a few the rest of us followed Winfield over to Richard Garriots property for a short tour before the Baron’s Men play we had scheduled for later that night. Richard’s (Lord British) property is huge and has a ton of cool stuff include a replica theater where a local theater troop called the Baron’s Men has setup and we got to enjoy their play Doctor Faustus. The play was great and after wards we headed back to the hotel to hang out some more and call it a night. Sunday we all said our goodbyes in the morning and headed our separate ways. All and all the very first EVL guild meetup was a huge success!
